Believe it or not, this tofu burger is far from bland. In fact, you might even agree with us that it's tastier than a conventional beef burger!
Makes about 6 burgers!
Ingredients
For the tofu burger:
- 400g firm tofu
- 100g breadcrumbs (use GF if necessary, or make from any kind of bread)
- Salt & pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp olive oil
For the sauce:
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 230ml tinned tomatoes
- 3 tbsp date syrup (you can use any kind of sweetener)
- 2 tbsp tamari sauce (or GF soy sauce)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
- Salt & pepper to taste
To serve:
- Salad lettuce, tomato, etc.
- Burger buns (opt for GF if needed)
Method
For the burgers:
- Blend the tofu in a food processor until smooth
- In a bowl, combine the tofu with the breadcrumbs, salt & pepper by hand
- Divide the mixture into 6 parts and flatten to make the patties
- Heat up olive oil in a frying pan and place the patties in the pan
- Cook on a medium heat for 10-15 minutes (flip halfway through) until golden brown and crispy on both sides!
For the sauce:
- Heat up olive oil in a pan on a medium heat
- Add the onion and cook until softened
- Add the tomatoes, date syrup, tamari, vinegar and salt & pepper
- Then, bring to the boil and simmer on a low heat for 10-15 minutes
- Taste and adjust seasoning to taste.
To serve:
- Place the burgers in the buns, add the sauce, lettuce et voila!!
