This month on the #KINNShip series we speak to the delightfully lovely Louise Roe, yes that Louise Roe! Presenter, Model and fashion journalist! Louise began her career in London as news editor for Vogue.Com, and has since gone on to write for many other publications including Elle UK, she has hosted Plain Jane and Fit For Fashion, and is an ambassador for Step Up Women's Network. We'd find it hard to believe that you haven't come across her, but if not then you must check out her blog!
How would you describe your personality in three words?
Loyal, committed, silly!
When you wake up what are the first three things you do?
I check on the baby, who is usually the reason I’ve woken up. Check my phone (which I’m trying to not do first thing anymore), and kiss my husband.
What does your dream day look like?
A day off, with the family, road-tripping somewhere fun in the sunshine. With no social media!
What’s the best piece of advice you have ever given and received?
Never expect anything, from my Grandpa, and mine is pretty simple: Be Nice.
What inspired you to start your blog?
I was hosting Plain Jane at the time (a makeover show on MTV) and had a swiftly-growing following of young women asking for advice, on everything from fashion and beauty to careers and dating. My background is magazine journalism, and I was missing writing regularly. So I thought, why not start a blog and I can write about whatever I want!
What is the biggest lesson you have learnt on your journey so far?
Not to sweat the small stuff, as they say in LA! It’s easy to get caught up in worrying about the tiniest things, and believe me, I’m a worrier, but I’m learning just to let go and let it be. Having a baby helps with that!
Where do you go or what rituals do you have for those moments you need to feel inspired or energised?
My biggest treat is a massage at home, which I have about once a month. A glass of red wine and a movie Is particularly helpful after a long day, and I love visiting anything historical and geeking out over the details, whenever I get the chance. If I travel for work, I always try to squeeze in one cultural moment, even if it’s just for half an hour.
At KINN we believe in clean beauty, for you, your family and your home, what is family to you?
Definitely being aware of the ingredients in the things going on and into my family’s bodies. For me, family is about laughing as much as possible, putting music on in the kitchen, eating, drinking and talking together.
What's your favourite thing about your home?
Its character. I love an older house, they always have a soul and a story.
Favourite podcasts and other digital inspiration?
The High Low, Whats Gabi Cookin, Rita Konig, CLJHome
Which five sites are always in your browser history?
Amazon, Architectural Digest, Baby Mori and LouiseRoe.com
We love your blog, and we were one of the first to order your book Front Roe, who are your style icons?
Thank you! Camille Charriere, Candice Lake, Rebecca de Ravenel – girls I know who are just as cool in person and really wear their clothes with confidence.
How important is it to you that your beauty and homecare products are clean/natural?
When I became pregnant and started doing more research, it became the most important thing ever.
Which are your favourite KINN products?
The Neroli Detergent and Fabric Conditioner, and the Lavender and Rosemary Washing Up Liquid, I literally just used it with my daughter, Honor – she loves washing her hands with me in the sink!
