DIY essential oil hair perfume
Sometimes your hair needs a bit of a refresh with a sumptuous scent. However, so many fragrances are unhealthy and bad for the environment, so how are you meant to smell fresh but still be as healthy as possible? We have an answer. Introducing the DIY essential oil hair perfume.

What you'll need

  • 45 drops essential oil
  • 2 tsp carrier ingredients (vodka, witch hazel or jojoba oil)
  • 100ml distilled, rose or orange blossom water.

For the essential oils, it's important to choose a mixture of top, middle and base notes. The top ones are scents which you smell initially, the middle are the main scent and the base notes are left on your hair once the perfume has worn off a little. This combination could be Neroli (top), Geranium (middle) and Jasmine (base).

When choosing your carrier ingredient, it's useful to know that alcohol-based carriers (such as vodka or witch hazel) will evaporate easily, but aren't necessarily the healthiest for your hair. Jojoba oil, on the other hand is good for your hair, will give it a good shine and mimics the scalp's natural sebum. However, oil might be heavier and greasier, and potentially is more fragrant than other options. But choose what would work best for you depending on time of day you're using the perfume, the scents you like and any other factors you think are important.

How to do it

  1. Add 45 drops of your choice into a glass spray bottle. Play around with all scents until the desired strength and combination is reached.
  2. Add the carrier oil and swirl around to combine.
  3. Pour in your chosen water, place on the lid and shake to combine.
  4. Store in a cool place, or in the fridge if your chosen ingredients needs it.
  5. To use, shake before spraying onto lengths of hair.
